How a traumatic event changed the Republic of Korea forever & altered the course of history with major ramifications.February 4th, 1981: Korean President Chun Doo-hwan & his wife, Korean First Lady Lee Soon-ja, preparing to depart after their visit to Washington, DC.Korean President Chun Doo-hwan was meeting with senior members of his cabinet including the ROK Joint Chiefs of Staff at Cheong Wa Dae earlier in the afternoon on December 9th, 1986. Soon afterwards, Chun stepped into the Presidential jet & flew to Busan, where he was scheduled to address business leaders at the Hotel Marriott Busan.
Somewhere in Busan, the Secret Task Force (who was conniving with North Korean extremists in the Rangoon Incident on October 9th, 1983 where the first assassination attempt against Chun was unsuccessful but resulted in multiple casualties) were determined to see to it that Chun must not leave Busan alive.
What would happen next would major implications for the Republic of Korea on both national & international grounds plus many loyalists of Chun eager to tightening their grip on keeping the dictatorship in place for the foreseeable future. Prologue November 28th, 1986 Somewhere in Busan, Korea The Secret Task Force had been plotting for months & over the last three years in figuring out how to take down authoritarian Korean President Chun Doo-hwan, who took power in a military coup d'etat against then-President Choi Kyu-hah on December 12th, 1979 & eventually ascended to the Presidency on September 1st, 1980 following the bloody May 18th, 1980 Incident in Gwangju.
Despite a botched assassination attempt on October 9th, 1983 in Rangoon, Burma where Chun's motorcade was luckily stuck in traffic; the bombing blast resulted in the deaths of several key figures in Chun's administration including several dignitaries. The Secret Task Force was undeterred & focused on getting rid of Chun one way or another.
Now depending on whom you ask on where they were when the breaking news alerts broke out on December 9th, 1986, nobody tried to figure out what was the motive of the Secret Task Force (who operated in skillful secretive ways), who justified their heinous actions by "Protecting the Republic" through violent means in putting outsiders in their place by any means necessary. What would happen next would result in huge ramifications for the Republic of Korea & the entire world.

Chapter 1: President Chun 11:36 AM KST, December 9th, 1986 Cheong Wa Dae, Seoul, Korea. It was a busy day planned for Korean President Chun Doo-hwan, who was in the midpoint of his tenure as the 11th & 12th President of the Republic of Korea since September 1st, 1980. Waking up at 4:30 AM KST, he took a shower, got a clean shave. After getting dressed, he walked to the family quarters of Cheong Wa Dae (Residence of the Korean President), where he ate breakfast including drinking a cup of coffee, reading the newspaper including plenty of intelligence reports; his wife, Korean First Lady Madam Lee Soon-ja & their four children were also having breakfast.
Soon afterwards, Chun went to his office & held meetings with Cabinet members, senior intelligence officials including hosting some courtesy calls with several members of the Diplomatic Corps. Among the list of events of his schedule: he was supposed to be giving a speech at the Hotel Marriott in Busan, where he was expected to address the business community there later that evening before flying back to Seoul.
Meanwhile in the outskirts of Busan, the Secret Task Force had gotten extracted information (more on that later) about Chun's itinerary, where they decided to launch their ambush at 8:56 PM KST....
